Unethical Lending

Summary:

Wells Fargo is one of the largest bankrollers of the private prison industry, the NRA and gun industry, and controversial Keystone and Dakota Access pipelines, lending billions to these industries.

In 2010 the DEA, IRS and others uncovered that Wachovia, now part of Wells Fargo, facilitated over $300 billion in transfers that fueled Mexican drug cartels. Their case against the bank settled in criminal court, with $160 million in fines paid. Wells Fargo learned about the illegal activity before acquiring Wachovia.
